Being A DunRoamin' Volunteer

DURING COVID, WE ARE STRICTLY FOLLOWING COVID-19 REGULATIONS, INCLUDING SOCIAL DISTANCING AND WEARING OF MASKS.  VISITORS ARE WELCOME FOR PRE-SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS TO MEET POTENTIAL NEW FAMILY MEMBERS.

WE WILL ALSO SPEAK ON THE PHONE TO INFORM YOU OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR PROTOCOL AND EFFORTS TO HELP THESE BEAUTIFUL LITTLE ANIMALS.

YOU MAY REACH US BY PHONE AT (506) 328-3380, THROUGH FACEBOOK OR BY E-MAIL AT INQUIRIES@DUNROAMIN STRAYANDRESCUE.COM.

WE HOPE TO INVITE VOLUNTEERS BACK IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.  WE ALL MISS YOU!

DunRoamin' has a volunteer program of which we are very proud.  Volunteers arrive twice a day, including weekends and holidays, to help care for our strays by cleaning litter boxes, filling food and water bowls, changing and washing bedding, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors and assisting with administering medications as necessary.  Once the work's all done, the best part of the job begins:  cuddle time, and you can be sure the strays all look forward to this more than anything (except maybe having their food bowls refilled!)  We have volunteers who drive from as far away as Perth-Andover and Woodstock at least once a week to spend time with and care for our strays.

As important as the routine care of our strays is, equally important is the socialization they receive.  The interaction in which they engage with our numerous volunteers greatly enhances their ability to blend into a new home with a minimum of stress, as they live in an environment where they meet and interact with people of all ages, sizes and personalities!

We have a stray caretaker who is on site from 8:30 am until 5 pm weekdays and Saturdays who is assisted by one, two or three volunteers, normally adults in the mornings except for weekends and summer months when school is out and students join us for morning shifts.  In the afternoon, a similar but shorter routine occurs.  The majority of the afternoon volunteers are students as the 3 pm shift is outside their regular school hours.  This ensures that twice a day each stray receives care, attention and socialization by very caring individuals who donate their time to ensure that they get all the support they require and deserve.   We ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult.

If you'd be interested in volunteering with our strays for the first time, please send an e-mail to straycaretaker@dunroaminstrayandrescue.com or call 328-3380.
We'll be happy to book you into our schedule. We are grateful to have assistance at any time of the day!

We routinely post our volunteer schedule below but it has been removed until we are able to reactive it once COVID makes it possible.  As you can see by the blocks with red pawprints on the schedule below, we have lots of room for more volunteers to help with our cats.  If you're already a volunteer and can help out by filling one of these slots, please send an e-mail to straycaretaker@dunroaminstrayandrescue.com to book yourself for some time with our strays.  Thanks again - we couldn't do this without you!

VOLUNTEER CALENDAR NORMALLY AVAILBLE HERE

Volunteers are welcome to come any days, including those which already have people scheduled.  The more hands, the lighter the work and the more cuddle time there is for our strays once the work is done!  Thank you once again for all your help.  We could not do this without you.  Your time, dedication and concern for our strays are greatly appreciated.

We particularly are grateful for our DunRoamin' Kids who volunteer all summer long and are not able to come as often when school is back in session.  We still look forward to having them in the afternoons and on weekends.  They are a huge asset to our strays and are very much appreciated.
